AdvantageNewcastle 11 Condensed Projects
Monday, 23 January 2012 14:59

Following the last stakeholder meeting where we identified the prominent projects from the AdvantageNewcastle workshops (which you can still see below), Newcastle Science City has managed to condense these down to 11 key projects. You can download a file containing these 11 projects by clicking on the tab below.

We are now going through a process of discussions with core partners to reduce this number of projects down to 3. These will be identified as the projects to be taken forward into the next stage of the programme.

Check back here soon for further updates.

Outputs from November stakeholder meeting
Monday, 28 November 2011 00:00

Following our recent stakeholder meeting on the 16th November you will find below 5 files which summarise where we got to with the identification of projects for the AdvantageNewcastle Programme.

At the meeting on the 16th we asked stakeholders to identify the projects which should be taken forward from the master list of project ideas that emerged from the SME workshops in October.

Stakeholders were asked to place these in a matrix based on how important the projects were and how easy/difficult they would be to implement. The files below contain the projects which were identified as being most important for each of the 4 themes - smart age business, all age city, assisted living and personal strategies - individually.

And there is one file which contains the projects for all 4 themes together. Although there are 23 projects included here, there are several which overlap and the next stage is to condense these down to 12 projects and eventually down to 2 or 3.

Outputs from SME October workshops
Friday, 04 November 2011 16:09

Following the AdvantageNewcastle workshops BusinessLab gathered all the data from the group discussions and has arranged this on the downloadable pdf. For those of you who didn't attend the workshops during w/c 10th October this document will need some further explanation.

We held two workshops on each of the 4 themes that were confirmed by the Stakeholder Group ie All-Age City, Smart Age Business, Assisted Living and Personal Strategies.

BusinessLab facilitated the sessions and noted the 2-hour long discussions in each workshop. Normally the workshops broke into two groups of between 6 and eight participants. As you will see, we also asked each group to respond to two specific questions about what could or should be done to progress each theme.

Responses to these questions are shown in orange and black on the attached pdf.(The two colours relate to the responses of the two workshop groups)

You will also see various headings highlighted in red. These are ideas that emerged during the general discussions that we believe could be potential demonstrator projects i.e. ideas that appear strong enough to be of regional significance and possibly warranting consideration as strategic priorities.

We would like to thank those who attended again for their excellent contribution and welcome any feedback on the outputs so far. Please email Joanna Rae at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it with any thoughts you have.

The October Workshops download
Friday, 23 September 2011 08:55

BusinessLab will be running a series of workshops during the w/c October 10th as part of the AdvantageNewcastle process. This is a process to engage businesses in the city-region with the public sector, third sector and academia to conceptualise a small number of demonstrator projects that will help to consolidate the region's strengths relating to the ageing demographic.

As part of this process we will be running 4 themed workshops in Newcastle starting on Monday 10th. These will last no more than 2 hours and by participating you can help shape thinking on what needs to be done to help businesses capitalise on the economic opportunities of the ageing demographic.
